Discover the ancient — yet ever-relevant — art of mold making: a fundamental sculptural technique that allows you to replicate, preserve, or transform a three-dimensional work.
During the course, you will learn to create plaster waste molds — a historic method used by generations of sculptors — or silicone rubber molds, ideal for capturing complex or detailed surfaces.
This course will guide you step by step through the technical process, opening the door to a practice essential for both traditional and contemporary sculpture.
Description & Objectives
In this course, you will learn two traditional mold-making techniques used to replicate sculptures in clay or other materials:
Piece mold: a classical technique used since the Renaissance, ideal for reproducing models in raw or fired clay. It consists of creating a rigid mold made of several interlocking parts, designed to be opened and reused. This method is particularly suitable when multiple copies are needed from the same model. (Suitable for clay castings.)
Waste mold: a faster and more essential technique in which the mold is destroyed when removing the copy. It is recommended for creating a single copy of a model made of clay or plastiline, especially when there is no need to preserve the mold. Its main advantage is the speed of execution.
Throughout the course, you will learn both the theoretical and practical foundations of these techniques, and you’ll have the opportunity to apply them either to a personal model or to one provided in the studio.

Description & Objectives
Designed for those who want to create professional molds from complex or detailed models, this course teaches you how to work with silicone rubber and build a rigid mother mold. This technique is especially suited for reproducing irregular surfaces, undercuts, or works that will be later finished with plaster or resin castings.
A versatile approach, suitable both for preservation and contemporary production.
